A Season of Rest, Part 1 of 3

Somewhere along the way, rest turned into something you have to earn. Busy became a virtue. Stillness got filed under "Nice. If I ever get there..."
Then we wonder why we're running on empty.
Here's the thing: God settled this a long time ago, and He didn't file it under "nice to have." It's a commandment. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8) — same list as "don't steal" and "honor your parents." We wouldn't casually skip those. Somehow "I'll rest when things calm down" gets a pass.
Things rarely calm down on their own. That's kind of the point.
This isn't God being strict. It's God, who built you, telling you the truth about your own limits before you had to learn it the hard way — you're not a machine, and the world keeps turning just fine without your constant supervision.
Next: what's actually happening in your body when you never let it stop.
Part of "A Season of Rest," a short series for Ordinary Time.
